Like nineteen other Lozère communes, Saint-Martin-de-Boubaux is part of the Communauté de Communes des Cévennes au Mont Lozère. At the beginning of the century, Abbé Pourcher settled in a remote village with only three or four Catholic families. It was in this peaceful setting that he wrote and printed books of piety and local history, the most famous of which is devoted to the Beast of Gévaudan, an authority among those with a keen interest in the affair. Today, the village of 200 inhabitants, surrounded by coniferous and chestnut forests, is a member of the Cévennes National Park charter.
