Fourques owes its name to its geographical location, between the Grand and Petit Rhône rivers, which form the Camargue delta and thus a fork in the river. The fixed bridge dates back to 1808, as the Petit Rhône previously had to be crossed by ferry. There are many sites to discover, including the church and its furnishings, listed as a Monument Historique, the Rhônomètre, a column that bears witness to the rising waters, and the pomerium, a sacred space in the town in Roman times. The town is also the scene of numerous events throughout the year: the Votive Festival, the Maïo Festival, the Puppet Festival, the Horse Fair and the Artists' Biennial.
