In fact, archaeological evidence shows that thermal baths were first developed here at the end of the first century AD, with a two-storey establishment featuring two pools and four basins. Then, the exploitation of gold, silver, copper, lead, iron and amber mines undoubtedly helped to settle the population in and around this village wedged between Pech-Bugarach and Pech-le-Cardou. Situated in the Sals valley, the town is surrounded by lush greenery.
