Puivert is situated on the border of the Haute-Vallée de l'Aude and the Ariège, and is a very special commune of the Quecorb, consisting of fourteen hamlets and stretching for over forty kilometres. The place is known for its magnificent 15th century medieval castle with its rusticated stones, a characteristic of the medieval castles of Languedoc. It was in this beautiful setting that Bertrand Tavernier's film La Passion Béatrice was shot. Remarkable sculptures representing musicians, located in a room of the castle, are at the origin of the creation of the Instrumentarium, a museum that can be visited.
