Puivert lies on the border between the Haute-Vallée de l'Aude and the Ariège, and is a very special commune in the Quecorb region, comprising fourteen hamlets and stretching over forty kilometers. The area is famous for its magnificent 15th-century château, which features the rusticated stonework typical of medieval castles in the Languedoc region. It was in this superb setting that Bertrand Tavernier's film La Passion Béatrice was shot. Remarkable sculptures of musicians, located in a room of the château, were the inspiration for the creation of the Instrumentarium, a museum that can be visited.
