Like many communes in the department, the history of Chennevières-sur-Marne began in the late 12th century. The town owes its name to the Latin cannabria, whose suffix refers to wet places where hemp was grown, a widespread activity in the region during the Middle Ages. If at the beginning of the XVIIIth c. Chennevières was still a small village with houses grouped around its church, it gradually developed with the construction of the Château des Rets on its hillside. Today, it is a pretty village whose elevated location offers a beautiful view of Paris and allows you to enjoy the banks of the Marne.
