Second town of Ile-de-France behind Conflans-Sainte-Honine, land of mariners, Saint-Masès has preserved its charm of glorious years. Located at the confluence of the Seine and Loing, its fate was closely linked to river transport. Many carolingian or neolithic remains discovered on the commune show a very ancient occupation of the site. There would even have been a Viking occupation, probably because of this position of river crossroads. Today, many inhabited barges are anchored on the docks and the old lock of 1724 and his lockout house keep the memory of the batger. Following the decline in this activity, the city turned to pleasure and river tourism, valuing a history and potential that gave it a strong identity.Ideally located upstream of Paris and Fontainebleau, at the confluence of the Seine and Loing, the port of Saint-Mammès is the perfect starting point to discover the canals of Loing, Briare, Nivernais and Burgundy. The Yonne and Seine also reserve very beautiful navigations. The Saint-Masès River Stop offers recreational boaters an infrastructure in harmony with Moret-sur-Loing, the twin town and medieval city to discover. It is a perfect base for discovering Fontainebleau, its forest and Barbizon.
