The commune of Jau-Dignac-et-Loirac was created in 1791 by the merger of three parishes: Saint-Pierre-de-Jau, Saint-Pierre-de-Dignac and Saint-Romain-de-Loyrac. Today, the village retains an old-fashioned soul based on respect for nature and tradition. Situated on the left bank of the Gironde estuary, the village is dominated by the Richard lighthouse, built in the 19th century on the edge of the Médoc's "Polders de Hollande", which were laid out in the 17th century. Jau-Dignac-et-Loirac's rich heritage of vineyards, small harbours, fishing villages and archaeological sites makes it an ideal haven for a waterside getaway.
