The most beautiful natural sites to discover Italy

A few kilometres from Mesola, the Gran Bosco della Mesola nature reserve with its 1,058 hectares is a huge plain forest, covered with dunes and holm oaks. With good binoculars you can observe deer, fallow deer and many wild birds. From the end of March to the beginning of November, excursions are organized by electric bus (maximum 8 passengers - 12 €), through the part of the reserve closed to visitors, with the possibility of meeting the deer of the Mesola.

Unique in Emilia Romagna, the landscape of this natural reserve is characterized by the presence of 8 m high sand dunes, vegetation récouvertes. An unusual and charming place.

Cervia's Natural Park covers 27 ha of Mediterranean vegetation and includes a farm. Ideal for leisurely walks or a picnic. Inside the park is also "CerviAvventura", a treetop course.

To the south of Ravenna, between the localities of Classe and Cervia, lies the Classe pine forest, a 900-hectare forest characterized by typical Mediterranean vegetation of umbrella pines and holm oaks, with clearings, dry meadows and swamps. The most interesting and preserved parts are those of Ortazzo, Ortazzino and the mouth of the river Bevano. Bicycle paths make it possible to cover it by bicycle. About ten kilometers west of Santa Teresa, the inlet that enters the land from La Licciola in the north to Porto Pozzo in the south offers a succession of beautiful beaches and coves protected from the wind and the currents. Our favorite is Conca Verde but don't hesitate to take the small roads or tracks to find your ideal cove! It is crowded in summer but certainly less than in Santa Teresa. The small marina of Porto Pozzo is rather charming and has nothing to envy to the big structures of the Costa Smeralda.

Located on the edge of the beach, the archaeological area houses the ruins of the ancient Greek Caulonia, founded by Crotone. Excavations have uncovered different strata of habitat, consisting of main streets (plateiai) parallel to the sea and by minor streets (stenopoi), perpendicular. The most representative housing is the Dragon House; it owes its name to its inner mosaic mosaic, which represents a dragon. But above all, on the beach, the remains of a Doric temple in the Fifth century B.C.

the park is divided into different excavation zones that archaeologists have designated different names. It actually encompasses the remains of monuments of the three cities built by Wellness at different times: Sibari, the achaean colony; Thurii, built by the will of the Athenians and Pericles; Gaul, the Latin Colony founded in 194 B.C. The sector called Parco del Cavallo illustrates the Superposition of the three cities thanks to a series of discoveries that highlighted the houses of Gaul, the walls of the houses of Thurii and the two arteries (pateiai), north-south and east-west. In the Cavallo Park, the most important building of Gaul, the theatre, of a semi-circular plane built in tufa. It consists of semi-circular stands and a large portico, dated from the th and th centuries B.C. On the other side of the road, at the site of Casabianca, where the remains of the colony of Thourioi are located, a zone whose nature is subject to multiple interpretations. Some of them see a site for boat repair, others a space where the merchants who, having joined the port, had to join the market, were standing in Indian to pay their price, under the authority of the competent personnel.

The escape to the Devil's Cave (Grotta del Diavolo) and the spectacular Ristola point give the impression of being at the end of the world, the point of the Raz du Raz.

The Romanelli cave is one of Italy's most important geological and archeological sites. Paleontologists discovered in this vast cavity important traces of the first inhabitants who probably occupied the region at the Upper Paleolithic. In addition to the various materials exposed (mainly fossils and reindeer bones, elephants and even penguins, exposed to the Museo Civico di Paleontologia in Maglie), the cave has kept red paint on the walls and on the ground.

Discoveries on the "Montagna Grande" of Muro Lucano are two caves, the most recent of which was found in 1994. They are close to the rocks and are very unusual, almost surreal.

Nova Siri sand beach is likely to be one of the most beautiful of the coast and its design less aggressive than elsewhere. The city municipality took advantage of the opportunity to pay tribute to Fellini: all tracks on the edge of the beach bear the names of its films…

Classified as a natural reserve, the forest of Pantano extends its 500 ha on the left bank of the river Sinni, horseback on the communes of Policoro and Rotondella. It represents a precious residue from the ancient Policoro forest, formerly very extensive. In this dense plant mass, there are typical species of mountain habitats, such as scalp, alder and oak oak, strangely mixed with Mediterranean species.
