Just a stone's throw from the castle, this hostel is undoubtedly one of the best in Celje. The restaurant room is a real point of view on the city and the castle. The welcome is the warmest. The map is well provided. The cuisine is traditional but of very good quality. You will enjoy a plate of cold meats accompanied by štrukljis or the Viennese escalope. Generally speaking, beautiful dishes decorated with talent and colourful seasonal vegetables. It is regrettable that the dessert menu is much less sophisticated.

In the same spirit as Vodniko Hram, the Sokol Hostel offers typical Slovenian dishes from all regions. The Truite trout, ham and olives of the Karst or the Gibanica de are found. Soups are often served in bread bowls, game plates are large (deer, deer, boar, polenta, bread boulettes…) and "régales" are truly atypical. Everything is served in a wooden frame where traditional music sounds. A good address for who wants to know the Slovenian gastronomy. However, the facility is very busy and prices are not always cheap.

In the heart of the old town, Hiša (house) Homan is one of the oldest Škofja Loka buildings. She is famous for her mural painting depicting Saint Christopher (of the th century). Located along the Ljubljanica River, this burger bar has made a splash in the city! The formula is disarmingly simple: American specialties - mainly burgers and ribs - excellently prepared in an open kitchen behind the pretty bar, a simple and neat industrial decor, and a warm pub atmosphere. The friendly chef did his training in the southern United States before starting his business in town. The meat is simply delicious and the selection of craft beers will delight the amateurs.

This small inn is located on the left side of the chairlift and offers a picturesque setting and a terrace with a superb panorama. You can enjoy the dairy specialities of the cowherds(melko kizlo and fresh cheeses) accompanied by delicious local charcuterie. As you may have noticed, this local cuisine gives pride of place to local and mountain specialities such as ričet or Carniolan sausage. There's nothing like it to regain strength after a good hike and leave refreshed for a new escapade!

In the main square, in one of the oldest buildings in the city, you will see the House of Gastronomy and Tourism. This is a training center for students in catering and tourism, consisting of a pastry shop, a restaurant, a store as well as an atrium and a conference room. In the restaurant, you can choose from three daily menus. The pastry shop offers all kinds of cakes, including black forest. The store has authentic products from the neighboring farms.

A renowned address located in the historic centre. In a rather bohemian chic decor, the à la carte dishes follow one another in a maze of the most pleasant smells and flavours. Slovenian cuisine is given pride of place although it does not take up the entire menu. You will love a veal fillet with grilled asparagus and black truffle purée. Special mention to the reception which is particularly pleasant with a staff with small onions and who tells us the story of our dishes and their ingredients with passion.

A rather incredible address: it is no more and no less than the best Japanese restaurant in Slovenia. In addition to the essential sushi - prepared on site in front of you - whose variety and flavour will literally melt on site, it is also worth tasting the soups and beef specialities to fully appreciate the chef's expertise. The atmosphere of the restaurant is friendly and the waiters will be happy to help you in your difficult choice between the dishes on the menu.

In summer the tables overlook the Ljubljanica River, one of the most beautiful views of the Triple Bridge and the Franciscan Church. Good traditional Slovenian and Italian dishes prepared carefully. The staff is nice. The excellent wine list makes the hotel proud.

This distinguished gostilna offers a range of good quality dishes in a tasteful decor. The menu is particularly rich in both international and Slovenian dishes. One will appreciate the quality of the plates and the inventiveness of the gustatory associations. We'll avoid the rather unremarkable pizzas, however. The map is translated into the language of Molière to avoid any misinterpretation and the waiters have some knowledge of French. A nice welcome and good advice about food and wine pairings.

This very ancient hostel is located on one of the main streets of Ljubljana. It is known for its typical Slovenian dishes. The interior is nice and if you want to eat outside, the restaurant has a quiet and shaded inner courtyard. The ražnjiči (veal skewers), a specialty in all the Balkans, are well cooked (7 €).

A constant decor for ages in this establishment located behind Parliament, near the opera house, in a building that makes the corner. We're easy next door. Yet this restaurant is one of the best in the capital for seafood. Grilled fish are of very good quality. Dishes are cooked in a simple way and prices are honest.

As the name suggests, this is a rustic pizzeria. The pizzas are served on large wooden tables on wide benches. The decor is simple and the pizzas classic. A wide choice of vegetarian pizzas, with nine à la carte options. Burgers and salads are also available. The dining room can accommodate quite a few guests, and the terrace is a pleasant place to soak up the sunshine in summer. The warm atmosphere contrasts with that of Bled's hotels. A friendly, unpretentious little spot.

Two restaurants in one! Pri Sv Florijanu is known for its avant-garde kitchen mixing traditional Slovenian cuisine with French or Asian flavours. There is a black bar marinated with slovène celery and caviar or a Slovene steak. The quality of course has a cost! For less expensive, just go down one floor to access the Moro restaurant. The quality is at the meeting and the prices are much cheaper than Pri Sv Florijanui. We are therefore enjoying all kinds of tajines in the heart of Slovenia!

On the harbor, above the rowing club, the restaurant's dominant position offers breathtaking panoramic views of the sea, the marina and its sunsets... when the big cruise ships aren't obstructing the view. Well-located, in direct contact with the day's arrivals, the Skipper had to offer quality fisherman's cuisine. The à la carte menu includes seafood platters and fried fish, octopus and soup salad, shellfish risotto, squid, etc., accompanied by a local white wine by the jug. Grilled meat and French fries are also available.

Pri Lojzetu is one of the country's flagship establishments. The restaurant is located in a vaulted cellar in the basement of the beautiful Zernovo mansion. He's famous for his slow food cuisine. Here, the chef Tomaž Kavčič puts all his talent at the service of a permanent search for gastronomic harmony. And to say the least, it's a success! Don't miss the homemade mini-gnocchi with local cheese and wild chicory, or the pork shoulder cooked at low temperature with homemade honey. A must-have, no doubt about it.

A low house with its two small th and th-century rooms that will allow you to take your breath after the climb from the village of Tačen. Opposite and at the foot of the wall, there is the shop with its souvenirs as well as the dishes and desserts served as the canteen, plateau in hand. Once served, install in the gostilna or look for a small spot outside the dozens of walkers who, for the umpteenth time, made the grimpette on this sunny Sunday. You will have left the car in Tačen near the Magasin store. From here take the lane on the right, continue on the left to reach the marked path with the red and white circle. Compulsive athletes will be able to participate in the annual mountain race leading to the summit. The record is less than 12 minutes.

It's always nice to have a seasonal meal under the chestnut trees, in the middle of nature. The hostel has many rooms, some of which are dedicated to poets and hunters. The cuisine is based mainly on meat in sauce and gives pride of place to seasonal game. The fillet of wild boar with cheese struklji is a house speciality. Apple strudel (jabučni zavitek) or honey struklji are worth a visit. Tasting in the wine cellar and buying local wines with wise advice, even Tito succumbed to this place.

You quickly feel at home in this gostilna thanks to the simple and warm welcome of Boštjan Bernik, who makes you appreciate the local dishes and his bread baked on the spot while his wife Jožica works in the kitchen. The surroundings lend themselves to a stroll, the plain is at your feet and customers do not hesitate to come from the capital to here. The house specialty, a variety of meats and vegetables served on a wooden platter, is tempting. The kind of scene Brueghel would have been sure to sketch with his brushes.

It is in Podgorje after 8 km long straight lines to finish, after leaving the Koper - Ljubljana axis or vice versa. A hostel below Mount Slavnik, with rooms without special accents, but offering authentic and tasty local cuisine based on fresh products. Game is in honor, the "fuži" are house, mushrooms are in the corner. It's literary, it's a pity that you've got a good address in Istria.

Housed in a former granary, the restaurant Kašča prepares traditional Slovenian cuisine, whose house specialities are contemporary adaptations of medieval dishes. You'll probably fall for the beef polenta with wild mushrooms or the homemade sausages made on the premises. More classic international dishes as well. The owners have been cooks from father to son for almost two centuries. The room looks like an old tavern installed as a duplex. A great stage!

A house that has existed since the beginning of the th century. It offers a charcuterie plate where bear meat is included. Less wild, local fried chicken at the hostel is very popular.

Kristof has evolved, introducing more and more products from organic or biodynamic agriculture on its menu. This establishment changes its menu according to the seasons and there is no shortage of ideas, even when it is no longer a question of culinary art. Ecological accommodation projects and the promotion of local products are some of the topics that animate the owners of the premises. Kristof remains the sure value of Kranj and its surroundings and the welcome is always as friendly as ever. We will particularly appreciate its pretty shaded terrace.

It is made from Slovenian cuisine and the place is pleasant. The hostel also has five rooms.

The tone is set upon entering this small inn restaurant; the red and white tablecloths with alpine motifs, the dark wooden beams and the porcelain objects promise us a total immersion in the Slovenian culinary tradition. In the summer, it is pleasant to enjoy the small outdoor terrace or the brightness of the indoor pergola. The service is relaxed and friendly.

Star chef Uroš Štefelin and his team run the Linhart House in the small medieval town of Radovljica. Not only does he offer gourmet meals, gourmet breakfasts and bistro-style lunches, but he also runs his own cooking school where even children can come and discover their passion for this art! The nationally recognized chef transforms heritage dishes into dishes of the new Slovenian cuisine. A unique experience that justifies putting your hand in your wallet.

The restaurant is named after Janez Vajkard Valvasor - a member of the royal family, writer, geophysicist and pioneer in the study of karst phenomena - born at No. 4 opposite the restaurant. A place with a modern décor and a restaurant which, since its opening in 2008, has managed to make a name for itself on the Slovenian culinary scene. It must be said that the menus - land and sea - make you salivate with specialities such as beef filet mignon with pepper sauce or freshly caught tuna with a mandarin orange mousse.

Cubo is renowned for its high standards of cuisine and table service. It attracts the crème de la crème, including the country's most important personalities. The staff are irreproachable and professional, with a perfect knowledge of the menu and possible food and wine pairings. Prices are rather high for meat, fish and risotto dishes. In 2024, the establishment received a surprise visit from Keanu Reeves, the famous actor from the Matrix saga. It's not a budget-friendly place, but the quality of the service is well worth the detour.

This hostel is located in the Stara Loka area, in the north-western part of the medieval town, about 500 metres from the city centre. You can enjoy local specialities in a warm and popular atmosphere. Of course, the meat dishes have pride of place and the butcher's cuts are carefully selected. Some correct choices for vegetarians. The rates are very advantageous and allow you to fill your stomach at a lower cost. Friendly welcome and possibility to have lunch on the terrace if the weather permits. Fast service.

It is rather difficult to find a nice culinary address in Postojna, many pass by... and yet the exception is here. Štorja is a modern bistro that offers elaborate tasting menus for gourmets, but also a more modest menu at low prices without compromising the quality of the offer. A small menu means a small production for an artisanal food and faithful to the culinary heritage with sometimes a whimsical mix of flavors. We can only warmly recommend this nugget.

Very elegant restaurant located in a beautiful setting. Chic terroir atmosphere! The dishes are carefully prepared with fresh, local products and are largely based on meat and charcuterie, but also some seafood. A piece of advice, keep a little space for the desserts, their flattering aspect will in any case know how to revive your appetite! It must be said that the chief, who gives his name to the place, is particularly inspired. A sweet moment, in the calm, nestled in the hollow of the mountains. Lovely terrace with flowers.

Situated near the bus station along the Kamniska Bistrica, you can enjoy Central European grill specialities, including the famous čevapčiči, a kind of spicy minced beef roll. The young and smiling team will welcome you with sympathy. Generally speaking, the dishes are simple but tasty and particularly hearty. Most of the specialities are cooked in an oil bath, the breadings are homemade. Flat: more industrial fries. Quite reasonable prices.

In an intimate atmosphere, yet not far from the banks of the Ljubljanica River, is the oldest Indian restaurant in the capital. The chef offers specialities from all over the country-continent, including delicious soups and sophisticated dishes inspired by the street food on offer in Mumbai. Spices are used wisely. The service is impeccable and the prices very reasonable. A good address to take a break - no less invigorating - in the Balkan kitchen!

From the twentieth floor of the Hotel InterContinental, opened in 2017, the view over Ljubljana is breathtaking (we're even talking about the city's highest restaurant). In Restaurant B, the dishes are no less surprising. Prepared by local chef Komnen Bakić, the new menu aims to be international with Slovenia's plural influences. On the bar side, you can enjoy one of our signature cocktails (with honey) at sunset, or enjoy a DJ set in a relaxed atmosphere (April to November).

The menu is well stocked and the service impeccable. As for the dishes, you can try the truffle pasta with minced beef or the salmon filet with sweet potatoes and lime sauce. It must be said that the address is very popular in Bovec and its surroundings and it can sometimes be difficult to find a table available on busy days. Service is old-fashioned and elegant, with white tablecloths and silverware in the evening. The cuisine is contemporary, mainly international, with a few nods to Slovenian terroir. Here, even a simple soup will astonish you, so perfectly are the flavors and textures mastered.

Altrokè is an ode to Istria and its Mediterranean cuisine. It is the beautiful part of the products of the Karst with a string of cold cuts, fresh cheeses, rich and tasty olive oils as well as a very beautiful development of the fish in carpaccio or snacked for the tuna steak. The atmosphere, cosy and warm, is accentuated all the more thanks to a meticulous selection of wines to accompany for example one of the tasting menus. Dishes are available in small sizes on request for those who want to try everything!

Here again, you will have to leave the city centre for a while and go a few kilometres north, to the heights of the charming village of Otočec. The restaurant, with its rustic old-fashioned charm, offers local cuisine with high added value. You will be tempted by one of the four tasting menus, depending on your appetite - between four and seven dishes for a price between 30 and 45 €. Polyglot, the chef de salle will passionately introduce you to each of the dishes for a more erudite gastronomic appreciation. A change of scenery!

More or less a Thai canteen with large tables usually taken over by the students of Ljubljana. Indeed, it is one of the best places in town because the kosilo is very attractive in terms of quality/price ratio. Every day there is a selection of woks, curries and other Asian specialties as well as starters and desserts at much lower prices than in the evening. The most difficult thing will be to get a place to try their delicious gyozas and vegetable spring rolls. Wide choice for vegetarians.

The concept: different types of modern Asian cuisine offering dim-sum, sushi, filled steamed buns, Korean bibimbap or stir-fried noodles. The wait is rather long, especially for the sushi, maki and other Japanese delights, which are prepared fresh. But the quality is there for a reasonable price. The place is quite small, but it's possible to take away and why not settle down in the peace and quiet of Tivoli Park. For tea lovers, they also offer Bubble Tea and a wide selection of teas in general.

4 km south-east of Škofja Loka, in the town of Pungert, you can find the best pizzas in the region. The ingredients are of high quality and the dough is very tasty. Italian specialities are in the spotlight: eternal pastas, risottos, minestrones, etc. Culinary offer quite extensive with river fish (depending on arrival), soups with seasonal vegetables, burgers with extra tender pieces of beef. You'll understand, it's impossible not to enjoy yourself! All this for very low prices.

"The Slovenian House" by its name promises you only Slovenian products on the menu. You can have a typical breakfast in the morning. For drinks, you can find Slovenian gins like Monologue or Gini Bee, local beers and ciders, as well as homemade herbal teas with honey. In the afternoon, you can taste the Kranj sausage or choose the cheese or the local cold cuts that you want to eat. The list of desserts includes such must-haves as gibanica and štruklji. Highly recommended!

This restaurant stands out by the uniqueness of its offer. Here, the menu is unique and seasonal, you don't choose your dishes from the menu but rather the number of dishes that will satisfy your hunger, up to twelve dishes. You have to know how to abandon yourself to the chef's choices, who competes with creativity and unexpected associations with a hazelnut soup, mint ravioli with goat cheese and celery oil or the intriguing beetroot cake combining beet, mascarpone ice cream, lemon and port. A traditional and cheeky address!

At the entrance to Linhartov Square, this hostel offers a wide variety of Slovenian dishes on its menu. To enjoy food, you have to love meat! The assortment of grilled meats - quite gargantuan - consists of a pork chop, country sausages, raznic (turkey cutlet), pleskavica (a kind of ground steak), accompanied by onions, zucchini, mustard and pepper sauce. To be enjoyed on the pleasant terrace with a view of the Triglav. A good address for the most carnivorous among you!

Original card that reinvents itself every quarter. The chef only uses fresh and seasonal products in his recipes. The offer is quite plentiful and will suit all appetites. The setting is breathtaking with a sumptuous view of the surrounding mountains from the large terrace. It should be said that the establishment is located on a hill overlooking Kranj. Relaxed atmosphere and friendly service. Don't leave without tasting one of the homemade fruit or vegetable juices, you'll miss out!

An address made prestigious in Škofja Loka by the talent of a duo, that of Gašper Čarman, twice named Sommelier of the Year, and the chef in the kitchen, whose expertise was rewarded with a Michelin plate. Danilo offers a "rural gastronomy" experience consisting of old recipes married with new wines. You can try the signature dish loška mešta, carp with smoked cottage cheese or lamb filet with barley risotto and eggplant cream. The house has been run from generation to generation and you can feel the heart of the work.

A craving for Italy in the middle of a Slovenian road trip? Bingo, Špica makes the best Neapolitan pizzas, a light dough with fresh basil, PDO mozzarella, Lisjak olive oil and even truffle cream. There are also other specialities such as the succulent beef tagliata or a nice plate of ribs and French fries. With this? An incredible selection of beers. The owner is none other than Jani Klemenčič, a retired Slovenian Olympic rowing champion, which explains the many deco references inside.
