The Bom Sucesso market was completely renovated about ten years ago. The architecture and the stalls are a mix of tradition and modernity. A must-see, since it has a different atmosphere from other markets. You can find the classic fresh products (fish, meat, vegetables), but there is also a part with gastronomic products only Portuguese and a food court with different restaurants. The emphasis is on promoting the made in Portugal. It is ideal if you stay in an apartment and want to cook good products.

A lot of good things in a lot of little cans beautifully lithographed with original illustrations that pay tribute to the past. After Lisbon and the Algarve, Comur, a company specializing in canned sardines, arrives in Porto. The rich lights give the store a circus feel. Sardines and other sea products, usually relegated to the rank of basic canned goods, are particularly well presented here. The preserves are delicious and do not contain any additives or preservatives: everything is natural.

The covered market of Olhão consists of two red buildings of industrial architecture. One is dedicated to fish, which is sold daily by the fishermen, and the other to vegetables. But what is this about the real queijadas da Sapa? Would other establishments sell fake ones? Unfortunately, despite a careful investigation, we were unable to solve the mystery... To get to the bottom of it, you will have to go to this factory/café to taste the famous queijadas and compare them to the traditional queijadas of Sintra to know which ones deserve the title of true queijadas.

This is without a doubt the most charming of the stores located on Rua Formosa. Its yellow front and its signs definitely stand out from the other stores. Opened in 1917, A Pérola do Bolhão offers cod, cold cuts, dried fruit, canned fish, Port wine and cheese from the Serra da Estrela. The exchange with the shopkeepers is very appreciable (they speak French) and the service is smiling. The legendary Cascais ice cream parlour, founded in 1949, with factories in São João do Estoril and Carcavelos (more recent), the regular supplier to the crowned heads, moved to the heart of the city in 2010. Leitaria da Quinta do Paço is a former dairy, which has been transformed into a pastry shop with specialized recipes based on milk and butter. The house has made a name for itself with its famous chocolate eclairs and the bola de berlim (a kind of sugar doughnut, possibly filled with jam or chocolate). The whipped cream is homemade and you can buy traditional butter. A greedy and calorie-laden break but when you like it, you don't count!

An address just a few steps from the big traffic circle of Marquês de Pombal, where many Lisboners go to work. This huge pastelaria is the meeting place of the dynamic executives of the neighborhood, convinced by the fast and efficient service, as well as by the large choice of sandwiches and typical daily dishes (soups, omelets...). They say that their pastel de nata is awarded several years in a row (and therefore to be tested). There is also a small and pleasant terrace. A small store, a former rope factory where people used to come to stock up on rafia, jute cloth and baskets... Here, you'll find many products from the Serra d'Estrela, from bread to artisan cheese. Their provenance and quality are of the highest standard. This store belongs to the Seia Bread Museum, where you'll find all the products of this region: compote, honey, cake, chorizo. Also unique, "sardinhas doces", chocolate sardines! A quality gourmet shop where you can buy products made in Portugal.

A small pastry shop hidden in the narrow streets, behind a garage door, where you can find excellent ovos molos and conventual cakes of Aveiro. This factory of small sweets of all kinds, born in 1882, religiously perpetuates the ancestral recipes of the convents. Of course, we will taste the ovos molos (egg yolk and sugar) and without wanting to compete with THE local specialty, we will appreciate as much to discover other cakes as the mulatinhos (nuts, egg yolk and host). Welcome to the temple of temptation!

Every morning of the week, except Monday, come to the market of Nazaré, full of colors, cakes, fruits, vegetables, ham and of course fish. Before or after shopping, it is very pleasant to have a coffee while observing the local customs. Here you will mainly see women vendors, some of whom are still dressed in their traditional clothes and seven petticoats to protect themselves from the cold. It is typical and local. A beautiful white building with a clock tower on a small square: the municipal market comes alive every morning until 2 pm. Small traditional stores sell fruits, vegetables, cereals, meat, fresh bread and even flowers. The rest of the time, the municipal market is a kind of commercial center with a few stores to make purchases including a supermarket. It is also the meeting place of Faro's inhabitants, of all generations, who sit on the brick benches or pass by quickly.

This confeitaria installed in an old stone house with a terrace overlooking the Tâmega river makes homemade pastries and regional cakes. The Portuguese sweets to choose from in the window are a marvel and the offer is great: bolo de São Gonçalo, papos de anjo, foguetes, brisas... To be tasted preferably by the river, a real delight. The Confeitaria da Ponte dates from 1930 and is popular with the Portuguese who go there every day. The coffee is excellent. The welcome is quite good but can vary according to the day.

Belongs to the Carrefour group as a Dia in Spain or Ed in France, it is basic, but it finds the essentials in a rather sinister decor, without any music of atmosphere and with a little waiting in cash. Finally, we are there to make savings, not to make fun! Plastic bags are paid, but before you take their breath, you ask: um faz saco saco saco.

Two beautiful renovated markets to stroll around:

The mercado do peixe(fish market), with a restaurant upstairs is located on the Largo da Praça do Peixe. It is here that the night fishing is sold. A must-see, as well as the typical neighborhood surrounding it.

The Mercado Municipalis located near the Canal do Cojo, not far from the shopping arcades of the modern shopping center, the Forum de Aveiro. The latter remain open late at night, including Sundays.

Think about going there when you are in Aveiro, you will get a small taste of the local Portuguese life.

Large covered market recently renovated on several levels with bars, restaurants and vendors of fish, seafood, fruits and vegetables. Some producers are organic. There is also excellent bread and pastries. It's good, cheap, there is a lot of choice. You can eat in one of the restaurants or shop, or both! Local and family atmosphere. This shop has been known locally since 1925 for its specialties inspired by conventual pastries, made with eggs and sugar, including bolos and pasteis de nata. Also bread and macaroons. It's up to you to choose in the window and behind the counter. There are three establishments in the city (11 Largo Pelourinho, Rua St António and Rua Antonio Azevedo). Adega de Ponte de Lima was founded in 1959. It gathers 2,000 producers, families and workers, forming the largest company in Ponte de Lima. This agricultural farm(adega) was created in 1958, on the initiative of 25 winegrowers who wanted to show their products. This is the place to go to taste and buy local wine. The vinho verde Alvarinho Deu la Deu and Muralha de Monção are very appreciated. A visit that will also allow you to discover a beautiful estate with a well laid out space to present the different wines. Recommended visit. Very good advice.

A stroll through the city punctuated by breaks in the pastelarias... This one is convincing: coffee with vinho verde and all kinds of sweets, all in a large room with a décor that has remained unchanged since the 1950s. The charm of the pastelaria Manuel Ferreira Capa will attract you at first sight, and the greediness of the sweets will finish seducing you! A good atmosphere in a beautiful place to take a break. In Lisboa, you'll be amazed at everything the windows offer and you don't see anywhere else, but when you buy a specific item, it's often complicated. In desperation, you can try your luck on these 9 floors devoted to fabrics, kitchen and table accessories, bedding or camping… there are cheap items to bite some crazy laughter but also very beautiful things (almost complete collection of Alessi…). It is not the Galeries Lafayette, despite its claims, but retain the address.

This inter-professional association for the promotion of Portuguese wines organises in situ low-cost tastings of wines from the Portuguese regions, via distribution fountains. In this beautiful and large area near the tourist office, the Portuguese wine-growing regions are well represented by many beverages. Some wines are available for purchase at producer prices, it changes regularly... For more availability of hostesses and hosts, prefer a visit in the late morning or early afternoon.

You can tell by the smell (unfortunately) and if it's true that you don't necessarily want to go home, it's a great place to buy cod. In the shop window, you can see them, whole, dry and covered with salt. One of the shops in the neighbourhood has a wide choice of dried fish to admire. The staff takes good care of its customers and the products are of high quality. Wine, preserves, liqueurs and other typical Portuguese products are also sold there.

Since 1930, the artisanal house has been delivering cans with multicolored packaging. Here we sell ancestral brands like Minor, Prata do Mar or Tricana. The contents are sardines, tuna, octopus, anchovies with different flavors (chili, tomato, olive oil) but also rarer contents (eels, fish eggs ...). The prices start low. All these packages of all colors, it gives envy necessarily. Ideal to bring back cheap souvenirs. The shop window is worth the detour!

Near the Confeitaria Nacional, a venerable and renowned establishment in the salt register. A house that is more than a century old, since its origin dates back to 1860. Authentic delicatessen: delicatessen (sausages, sausages, sausages...), cheeses (goat, sheep...) and wines, exclusively of Portuguese origin. But also coffees and, on the central counter, candied or frozen fruits and other sweets. It is at this butcher's that the inhabitants of the village come to do their shopping. The employees are adorable and will make you taste their tasty home-made sausages and smoked hams, they will even offer you a glass of wine to make it all go down! Opened in 2018, this hybrid venue is part store, part wine cellar and part library. In its colorful room, you'll enjoy one or more cod fritters filled with Serra da Estrela PDO cheese while drinking a glass of port. There is a singer on weekends who is accompanied by an organ dating from the 18th century. The price is a bit high but the place, sublime, deserves at least to take a look at it once. We leave with a glass engraved of the day of our arrival.

Both a wine bar and a store, Bago a Bago is located near the cathedral. It offers a wide range of local wines, in partnership with several quintas, to taste on the spot or to buy. As soon as you enter this Ali Baba (!) tavern, you feel good and the owner, who is a sommelier, will accompany you with great kindness in the selection of a bottle.
