On August 4, thousands of people gather in the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca, in Vitoria, to celebrate the start of the festivities of the White Virgin. The descent of the emblematic Celedón marks the beginning of the festivities. For a week, Vitoria lives to the rhythm of the many activities programmed for the occasion: gastronomic and craft fairs, fireworks, bertsolaris competitions, Basque strength games, concerts, etc.

This tradition, which dates back to the Middle Ages, begins with the cremation of the Volatín, a figure made of wood and rags into whose mouth a firecracker is placed, supposedly representing Judas. The next day, in the Plaza de los Fueros in Tudela, thousands of people gather to witness the Bajada del Ángel (Descent of the Angel). In this ceremony, a child dressed as an angel runs up to a virgin covered with a black veil, a symbol of mourning for the death of Christ, and removes the veil to represent the resurrection of Christ.

On the occasion of Saint Magdalene's Day, eight young people from the village perform this "stilt dance", dressed in traditional costume. Accompanied by the tunes of drums and bagpipes, they have to climb a stone path from the church to the main square of the village, while performing dance steps. This is the oldest folk tradition in La Rioja, with documents dating back to 1603, although it is believed to have originated even earlier. This rite is also celebrated on the last Saturday of September.

This maritime festival is one of the most emblematic of northern Spain. It commemorates the ancient dispute between Bermeo, Mundaka and Elantxobe over the ownership of the island of Izaro. Legend has it that the municipality of Bermeo won the ownership of the island after an epic regatta. Since then, a maritime procession is celebrated every year on July 22, the day of Saint Mary Magdalene, during which all participants are dressed in blue. The day before, concerts, tastings and folklore demonstrations take place in Bermeo.

The Fiesta del Diablo or Festival of the devil is held every year with Tijarafe. In the heart of the noise and fireworks, inhabitants dance by celebrating the devil: they do not sleep and the arrival of the devil. This folk festival of the Virgin, in honour of the island's patron saint, celebrates the miracle of 1824, when the village of Mancha Blanca, a locality southwest of Tinajo, was spared the lava flow that stopped just before the village. During these same days, the village receives all the craftsmen from Lanzarote, but also from the Canary Islands and Spain on this day particularly followed by all. This ancestral festival of the "pond" or Party del Charco, proceeds in San Nicolás de Tolentino, into Large Canarie. This festival was declared of cultural and tourist interest. Constitution Day is a holiday on the other side of the Pyrenees. On this occasion, the whole country commemorates the acceptance of the Constitution by referendum in 1978. This was one of the great founding acts of Spain's democratic transition, the process that led to the end of the dictatorial regime after Franco's death in 1975. It was a text that was widely acclaimed at the time, with 88% of the electorate voting in favour. This holiday usually marks the beginning of the Christmas holidays for Spaniards who are starting to go shopping.
