The Fiesta del Diablo or Devil's Festival takes place every year in Tijarafe. Amidst shouts and fireworks, the locals dance in celebration of the devil: they don't sleep and wait for the devil to arrive. Not in fear, but to set the forces of evil against good by celebrating the Virgin Mary. This is one of the island's most popular festivities, albeit a relatively recent one, dating back to the early 20thcentury . Once brought to the center of the village, to the Plaza de Candelaria, the devil explodes in a pyrotechnic finale.
