ATTABLEZ-VOUS

Gastronomic Restaurant €€€
4/5
1 review

In the house once owned by his parents in the Plante district, Charles Jeandrain offers gourmet cuisine based on seasonal produce. The hyper-trendy decor is the opposite of the classic style of yesteryear. On the plate, haute cuisine: lobster rubs shoulders with sweetbreads, Iberian pluma, langoustines, turbot and oxtail. The chef also offers Belgian "ocietra" caviar, served with cauliflower, lemon and bread. Reservations recommended. Take-home store and classes to reproduce.

CHEZ POMPON

Pompon is much more than a chip shop, it is an institution almost as well known as the Caves themselves. Yeah, that's a bit of an exaggeration In addition to the classic French fries, which are served generously, the restaurant room also features XXL meat cuts and brasserie dishes. Belgian beers complete the picture. Please note that the dishes are also take-away. Just opposite, the tavern Au Vieux Han (same direction) offers a beautiful terrace where you can taste some special beers, including the Corne du Bois du Pendu.

Joseph II of Austria had nicknamed Spa "The Café of Europe". For two hundred years ago, the city attracted numerous personalities from all over the continent to recharge their batteries and enjoy the casinos. Right in the heart of the city, on the Place Royale, this café is designed to reflect this image. You'll be satiated with excellent brewery cuisine and regularly changing suggestions. Concerts, broadcasting of matches... the atmosphere is often lively. The setting has recently been refreshed but the mussels in season are still a must.

LA FERME DE BALTHAZAR

This charming 13th century farmhouse is home to a family business that has made a very good name for itself today. In a very pleasant rustic decor (exposed beams, red bricks, an imposing fireplace...) you will enjoy simple and well-executed dishes with generous portions. The suggestions change regularly according to the arrivals and the seasons. Beautiful pieces of meat and fish are cooked. The establishment also proposes typical regional dishes: Flemish carbonnade or hot toast with maroilles. You will also appreciate the aperitif board with an assortment of Bruges cheeses and home-made charcuterie. And if you still have room, you can enjoy one of the home-made desserts. The friendliness of the staff completes this country break in all simplicity. We disconnect the time of a meal, and we ask for more.

The terrace is a delight for lovers of picturesque views, between rock, Collegiate Church and Meuse. The menu features "local" beers from the famous Leffe brand. On the food side, the brasserie menu is unsurprisingly well-balanced, with dishes such as jambonneau à la moutarde à l'ancienne, fine cuts of meat, creative salads, and even a choice of different couscous as well as a few suggestions. All unpretentious and reasonably priced, with sauces generously topping the plates for tighter budgets.

From the know-how and a sense of warm and warm decoration, you are here in a kind of modern tavern where it is good to dwell. Planks, salads, grills and regional dishes: everyone will find it. In the renovated buildings of the former National Bank, Quai 10, inaugurated in 2017, is at once a brasserie, a cinema and a video game gaming space. Well-crafted, original and hearty dishes. In fine weather, the terrace overlooks the Sambre. Sunday brunch is popular.

The reception of this family restaurant located close to the Lacs de l'eau d'Heure, is provided by Christian and Anne-Marie, the "beekeepers" of this hive, who for four decades now have been looking after the happiness of their customers. Without being omnipresent, the products of the hive (honey or mead) like to mingle with appetence with certain dishes. The terroir is not to be outdone with a wink to some local producers (Ferme de la Sauvenière or Distillerie de Biercée, for example) without forgetting the mead stamped La Ruchette, flavoured or not.

This brasserie, unchanged since the 1970s, is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. An institution, especially for the night owls, but also for the little grandpas who come to remember the good memories here. The decor, unchanging, gives us the impression to be in the cabin of a captain in full expedition at sea. They serve honest double boulets (two boulets liégeois instead of one), salads, croques, vol-au-vent, stews, grills, burgers... All served copiously, washed down with fries, good Belgian beers and at union prices.

A restaurant-grill, located at the exit of Mouscron, which turns out to be a popular stopover for lovers of meaty meats. Indeed, the grill is running at full capacity - it is the largest Irish meat outlet in the region - and the butcher's cuts have been carefully chosen: beef comes from Ireland and lamb from New Zealand. You will find bone-in ribs, ribs, grills, tabs, skewers and a "Black Angus Burger". All accompanied by vegetables, potatoes and homemade sauces. It doesn't take much to convince the last reluctant ones, all the more so as the atmosphere here is quite convivial.

French cuisine in flavour, the boss, who cares about the well-being of the customer, works only with fresh and quality products to always enchant your taste buds. may 12, 1974, Nivelles hosted its 2nd and last F1 GP. The site reconverted in zoning accommodates in particular this restaurant. The plate is very correct and the decoration of red, black checkers and miniature cars evokes this prestigious past. The ceiling light simulates the circuit, the bottles of wine are waiting on the starting grid. At the billboard, the grilled rib steak carburetted with real fries with beef white. The tifosi will enjoy pizza or a saltimbocca. For a quick pit stop, pick from the salads and sandwiches to go.

A homemade beer, a snack or a real meal, everything is possible at the Taverne de l'Homme Bleu. This attractive brewery in the former stable of the Château de La Hulpe Farm (1833) owes its name to the main character in Folon's work. It's an institution in Mons. The decoration is a bit kitsch (Bécassine and other hanging dolls), the whole is as rustic as the dishes, concocted by the boss following good old Belgian grandmothers' recipes and floor prices, for generous plates.
