UNE GAUFRETTE, SAPERLIPOPETTE !

Patisserie
4.9/5

One of our favorites. Homemade vanilla or orange crepes, traditional bouquettes, mini Liège wafers with butter and pearl sugar, madeleine... We want to try it all. The shop windows and street-side workshops are a real eye-opener. Opposite, bread takes pride of place. Eric, the owner, selects his own cereal crops from a farmer in Liège. Artisanal ice creams and sorbets (2019) and French fries and side dishes (2021) complete the offer.

Right in the center of town, this family-run butchery and charcuterie is a true tribute to the Ardennes region. Most of the cured meats and charcuterie are homemade, salted and smoked the old-fashioned way. Specialties include saucisson à la bière Godefroy, pavé des croisés and saucisson de sanglier à la Chartreuse. Meat comes from family farms and regional farms. Magnificent choice of game in season. The cheese shop also sells oeillet du château, a sheep's milk cheese matured in the cellars of the Château de Bouillon!

D'ICI

Cave à bières
4/5
1 review

D'Ici forges links between small-scale producers and their customers. The aim is to promote short circuits. This well-intentioned concept covers 360 m². It offers a wide range of fresh, packaged and prepared foods, not forgetting Belgian wine and beer. Of course, we won't find any big names here, but rather the best in local food and drink. For each product, the number of kilometers separating the place of production from the point of sale is indicated.

Renowned breweries can themselves open brewpubs. In Wallonia, this is the case for Dubuisson, who inaugurated the first establishment of this type, Brasse-Temps, in the university town of Louvain-la-Neuve as long ago as 2000! A specific range of four beers was created, to be tasted only on the premises. In the space of twenty years, Brasse-Temps has become a household name, with several outlets opening in the Hainaut region, including Mons and the latest in Charleroi's Ville 2 shopping center, which opened in 2022.

CHOCOLATIER DEMARET

The Demaret house is a family-run and demanding company that makes pralines unbeatable and exclusive fodder. Their products are high quality but without marketing fireworks, offering excellent value for money. This family focuses on the quality of raw materials and ensures good turnover of products. One of the Demaret sisters, formed in one of the best schools in the country, nevertheless believes that the best of learning is done by a professional, namely his father. The other sister is responsible for broadcasting and marketing. Perhaps you have already tasted, without knowledge, these products with family know-how as retailers do not necessarily cite them… The establishment has received several International Chocolate Awards for the quality of its products.

LA MANUFACTURE URBAINE

Inaugurated in 2017, Manufacture Urbaine is a project that aims to be sustainable, ethical and locavore around bread, beer and coffee. Because at the MU, we're brewers, bakers (sourdough and long-fermented breads) and roasters. The workshop space is vast and airy, all concrete, glass and steel, very pleasant. The brewery's four product ranges are highly varied: lager, white, black, table beer, IPA, amber and, last but not least, a triple. On the restaurant side, the menu features brasserie dishes using local, seasonal produce.

Easter egg, triple layer (chocolate, praline, choco) single layer. Everything is made in the workshop behind the shop. The reception is very friendly.

JANDRAIN-JANDRENOUILLE

Craft brewery and microbrewery
5/5
1 review

IV Saison, V Cense, VI Wheat This new brewery opened in the summer of 2007, taking the name of its home village of Jandrain-Jandrenouille in Walloon Brabant. It is the brainchild of two young engineers, Alexandre Dumont de Chassart and Stéphane Meulemans, who developed the brewery in old farm buildings with equipment from the old Brasserie du Berry at Bourges in France.Launched in September 2007, the first beer was IV Saison, an unfiltered, unpasteurised and bottle-conditioned beer (6.5% abv) with a pleasant hoppy aroma. It's a genuine saison beer and the IV in its name refers to the number of ingredients needed to make it: water, malt, yeast and hops.IV Saison has now been joined by two other new beers: the amber V Cense, a subtle blend of hops and three different malts (7.5%), and VI Wheat, a mild wheat beer (6%) with fruity aromas produced by the different hop varieties it contains. All beers are sold in 75cl bottles and 20 litre kegs. The brewery hopes very soon to be producing 300,000 bottles per year.

LA MAISON DU FROMAGE

5/5
1 review

Since 1983, it's easy to get the butter, the butter money and the creamer's smile as a bonus in this shop! Appetizing cheeses of all kinds awaken nostrils and taste buds. The interest is to taste the very rich palette of cheeses from Liège, or rather from the land of Hervé where the fat green grass feeds cows, sheep and goats. A real breakthrough. The house also offers a beautiful selection of wines to accompany its board, but also homemade beers, syrups and jams that go perfectly with local cheeses.

Among Édouard Bechoux's specialties, depending on your appetite and the season, you can choose between palets (available in pralines, mendiants, with a special mention for the exceptional rosemary praline), spice-flavored ice cream, cakes (don't miss Édouard's classic), and genuine hot (or cold!) chocolate spiced and revisited by the master. All made with pure cocoa butter. The portions served on the premises are more than generous, and we take this opportunity to take a look at the workshop, open to the curious as well as the gourmet.

Saint-Monon (ambrée, brune, au miel; Mix Hop) The Brasserie Saint-Monon was founded in 1996 by Pierre Jacob, the youngest member of a farming family. It is situated in Ambly in the province of Luxembourg and gateway to the Ardennes. It was, in fact, in 2000 that the brewery took the name of St. Monon, a Scottish monk and hermit from the 7th century who is now known as the patron saint of livestock and for protecting the harvests of local farmers. There are four Saint-Monon beers: Saint-Monon ambrée, Saint-Monon brune, Saint-Monon au miel (with honey)and Mix Hop. Mix Hop is the newest of the four, a 6.5% abv amber beer made with five different types of hop. It was launched in November 2010.The brewery also makes a number of beers to order for third parties.
