THE FORTIFIED CHURCH
Read moreIsolated on a height overlooking the Oise valley, the Fortified Church of the th century is located between two villages: Flavigny-le-Grand and Beaurain. It was used at the time of refuge to the populations affected by the invader. The large square dungeon, semi-stone, semi-brick, attached to two cylindrical towers, gives the building a military look. It consisted of two floors, one with chimney and lethal, the other with a bretèche that defended the entrance. Two identical towers flanking the bedside and reinforce this sense of strength and deterrence. Very damaged during the First World War, it has been restored many times and it is now a welcoming place. Its privileged site and defensive capabilities make it one of the most visited churches of the Thiérache. As follows: The church of Beaurain is illuminated outdoors on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. See also in the village, the fortified mill.

PARISH OF OUR LADY OF CZESTOCHOWA
Read moreThe parish church of Our Lady of Building, located in the heart of the Grand Street, could almost go unnoticed. The entrance of the church is not directly on the street, but is in a slight indentation. And the building being modern, it doesn't draw the eye straight away. However, if you look at the eyes a little, you will discover a completely unusual bell, as suspended in the air, and placed just above the entrance. That is original. Built on a former garden renovated in 1974 by a Polish architect, the church combines modernity with tradition with elegance and beauty. By entering the building, you will see on your left an astonishing wrought iron cross that runs up to the last stage. When you walk along the benches, you will join the choir. This is the perfect place for the circle. The white of the marble floor reveals the altar itself in circles. Thus placed in the centre of the church, you will be immersed in a bath of light and colours emanating from the magnificent stained glass windows. The latter trace the history of Poland. At the tabernacle you will see a representation of the Supper. Will you know how to find Judas? So look for the halo character. Every Sunday, a Franco-Polish mass is organised. Accessible to everyone (thanks to the diffusion of large screen translation), this mass shows the richness of a community open to sharing and will be happy to welcome you and to make you visit the places, even if you come only as a tourist. A superb building is not missing.

Very attached to their small chapel, the premises made her rebuild in 1954 after the German bombardment of the war. A little finding…

SACRÉ-CŒUR CHURCH
Read moreMajestic church, located at the corner of Solferino Street and National Street. It is a far cry. It was erected at the end of the th century, at the initiative of the Ladies of Mary's Children's Association of the Sacred Heart, to preserve Lille from the Prussian invasion. In neo-Gothic style, it is one of the largest churches in the city: 90 m long, 24 m wide and 22 m high under the main vault. It was built by the architect Lillois Jules Batigny between 1875 and 1898. Its steeple, so high that it is visible at miles to the round, was completed in the mid th century on plans. In reinforced concrete, it did not withstand the weather and had to be restored entirely from 2005 to 2008. The Absidiale chapel is adorned with a remarkable set of eleven stained glass windows in Chartres around 1890, which have been classified as Historical monuments since 1983. Among the other jewels of the church, note the presence of an English accompaniment organ dating from the end of the th century, also classified as the stained glass windows of the transept representing the evangelists.
