This religious building, dedicated to women, was erected in 1329 under the orders of Thierry d'Hireçon, future bishop of Arras, and Mahaut d'Artois. Mont-Sainte-Marie had a very difficult beginning but quickly contributed to the development of the order and welcomed a good number of young girls from the great local families. Partly destroyed during the Revolution, the buildings were bought at the beginning of the 20th century by the Bruay mining company in order to transform them into corons.
