Located on 6 hectares at an altitude of 1,096 metres, in the heart of the Massif du Tanet. To reach the upper castle, a tower dating from the 12th century, you have to go on a very steep path following a ramp cut into the rock. In this canton we talk about the "Welche", a novel dialect, but another of the peculiarities is the love of cheese, and more specifically Munster. His story? In the th century, monks raised cows whose milk they used to make cheese. A monastery that says Munster, the cheese takes this name so sacred for lovers of good cheese.

The castle was built by Rodolphe d'Andlau around 1344. Many conflicts erupt between Strasbourg and the Andlau, but the castle escapes from destruction every time. Occupied by Swedes during the Thirty Years War, it was destroyed by French troops of Maréchal Marshal in 1678. The remains have a polygonal enclosure, two cylindrical dungeons, ogival doors and windows, a square dungeon and a body of géminées windows.

Christmas markets are a must in Alsace, the one in Thann is no exception. Vauban's last fortified work, the city of Neuf-Brisach was built in 1699 by order of Louis XIV to secure Alsace. This stronghold, listed as a World Heritage Site since 2008, is remarkable for its star-shaped design.
