Lapland is a strange destination, with no real borders and shared by Finland (for the most part), Norway, Sweden and Russia. Lapland is a place where nature reigns supreme, a place of wild and deserted expanses as far as the eye can see. On this territory evolve bears, wolves, reindeers, eagles, whales and salmon. The landscapes alternate between plains, forests, tundra, fjords, cliffs and lakes. Set in tales and legends, we meet trolls and we visit Santa Claus' house in Rovaniemi.
We meet an original people, the Sami, whose traditions are still important, and who are still fighting, thanks to the Sami Parliament for example, to defend and represent their interests in the current society. All these images that come to mind when one thinks of Lapland are those that one discovers when arriving in these lands of the Great North. In winter, skiing and sleigh rides are in full swing on the omnipresent snow and the enchantment of Christmas permeates every village. In the sky, we will try to attend, blissful, the fantastic spectacle of the northern lights. In summer, a green nature reappears; while the sun never sets. A trip beyond the Arctic Circle is a fantastic and unique experience.

When to go en Laponie ?
When to go to Lapland? If a trip to Lapland always has something magical about it, we can distinguish interesting periods according to the type of activities you are interested in.
First of all,the months of May to August allow you to enjoy all the outdoor activities (many of them are impossible before mid-May). July is the month of festivals, traditional outdoor museum activities, and it is also the hottest month when the sun shines the longest (in this case, from midnight to... midnight in the North!).
The other period is for lovers of winter sports, snow, sleigh rides and saunas! It is the months of December to March-April, when snow covers the land. Ideal for seeing the Northern Lights, enjoying Christmas markets and skiing. The months of September to December are the least touristy and the thaw period (March to early May) does not offer an enchanting sight either.
In autumn, you can pick mushrooms and berries, admire the shimmering colors of the "ruska" (when the forest is ablaze) and the first aurora borealis.
Two times to avoid: the months of October-November are a bit sad, before the first snowflakes fall, and the spring when the thaw begins.

How to go en Laponie
How to go alone
The easiest way to get to Lapland is of course by plane. On the spot, the region is very safe. The only danger is the omnipresence of nature. Therefore, be careful when hiking in a desert area. Inform the information points of your passage. Snow can fall in Lapland as early as October. It then covers the markings (on the ground) of the hiking trails. Nature can quickly become hostile and some regions still have bears.
How to go on a tour
Going on an organized trip to Lapland is a very good option. The travel agency will design a trip or a tour according to your wishes: sleigh rides, skiing, nights in igloos, stays in a chalet, visits to Santa Claus' village... The activities are numerous, and this can be the most economical way to visit Lapland.
How to get around
There are several airports in Lapland, well served by domestic lines: Alta (Norway), Kiruna (Sweden), Kittila, Rovaniemi and Ivalo (Finland). The train, on the other hand, is not the most suitable means of transportation, unlike the well-developed bus network, both in summer and winter (except in extreme conditions). Finally, renting an adapted car (snow tires, chains...) is a very good way to visit Lapland by yourself. Driving, except in the snow, is easy.
