Stay : Long stay in Lapland

We can consider a circuit having for departure and arrival Luleå, in Swedish Lapland. The idea would be to cross Swedish Lapland towards the Lofoten Islands in Norway, and then head for the North Cape. Then visit the Lapland of the fjords, along the Barents Sea, before going back down south, crossing Finnish Lapland

Day 1: From Luleå, Sweden

Steps: Narvik, Vuollerim, Gammelstad, Boden, Abisko, Jokkmokk, Kiruna

We will cross Swedish Lapland, from the shores of the Gulf of Bothnia going north, through Gammelstad (medieval village classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO), Boden and the visit of its forts, before taking the road 97 to Vuollerim, with a stop at its archaeological museum. We continue on Jokkmokk, Kiruna (to appreciate its midnight sun in summer), a possible detour by the small village of Jukkasjärvi, and the mountainous forests ofAbisko, to finally arrive at Narvik in Norway.

Day 2: From Narvik

Steps: Narvik, Moskenes, Stamsund, Tromsø, Alta

Discover the Lofoten Islands for a few days, renting a rorbu, and enjoy the scenery. Take a tour from north to south, to Moskenes, then back to Narvik, or take the Coastal Express to Stamsund or Svolvaer, to go up towards the North Cape, with stops in Tromsø and Alta.

Day 3: North Cape

Steps: Gamvik, Kongsfjord

To start on the road of the fjords. Go down to Svarsvåg, a fishing village. Allow 6 hours to drive to Gamvik, east and a little south of the North Cape. This fishing village on the shores of the Barents Sea offers excursions by sled or boat to discover the region. Cross the desert landscape filled with glaciers to reach Kongsfjord, then take the RV890 to Bervelåg, crossing wild landscapes, mixing cliffs and fjords.

Day 4: Finland

Steps: Kemi, Tornio, Utsjoki

With a first stop at the border in Utsjoki, then Kevo. Ideal destination for nature lovers, who will be able to enjoy the hiking trails through the nature reserve. Then head to Kemi, with its famous ice castle, before reaching Tornio on the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia, then Luleå for the end of the trip.

Day 5: Lapland Lakes

Steps: Ivalo, Inari

We continue towards the Lapland of the lakes, in order to reach Inari and Ivalo. Inari could hold the key to Sami culture with a cultural center dedicated to it. Near Lake Inari there is also a pagan shrine of the ancient Sami. In the summer, you can visit a reindeer farm to get a closer look at the local mascot

Day 6: In the heart of Finnish Lapland

Steps: Rovaniemi, Gammelstad

The road then continues to Sodankylä, in the heart of Finnish Lapland. A former crossroads for Sami communities, today you can enjoy its nature. Then we reach Rovaniemi, capital of Finnish Lapland and city of Santa Claus. In addition to visiting the very touristy Santa Claus Village, you can also linger at the Christmas house, the Joulukka or other activities around the famous character.

Day 7: Kemi - Tornio - Luelå

Steps: Kemi, Tornio

Then head to Kemi, and its famous ice castle, before reaching Tornio on the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia, then Luleå for the end of the trip.
