The road from Ivalo to Inari passes through a beautiful landscape with the indentations of Lake Inarijärvi. The 100 km long lake is one of the largest in Finland and is dotted with a myriad of islands (more than 3,000). The best known of these, Ukonsaari, was once a high place of Saami worship. Remains of immolated reindeer antlers evoke the divinatory and votive rites practiced by these ancient nomadic peoples.

Inari is a small village of about 600 inhabitants, 40 km north of Ivalo. It is a small crossroads that is particularly lively in the summer. However, don't expect anything spectacular in terms of architecture. On the other hand, the surrounding nature and the exciting Saami Cultural Centre (SIIDA) are good reasons to stay in the region.
