Nellim is a charming little village of less than 300 inhabitants, lost in the midst of typical nature. It stretches along the south-eastern shore of Lake Inari, a stone's throw from the Russian border and 40 km from Ivalo. Here, the Inari Saami, non-Sami Finnish families who came here in the 1920s to work in the forest, and the Skolt Saami who took refuge here after the Second World War, fleeing the Germans and then the Soviets, mingle. It has thus become the crossroads of all northern Finnish cultures. Completed in 1987, its magnificent church will immerse you in the atmosphere of the Far North.
