In 1247 the village became the chief of a high court and a castle was built in the north. Destroyed by the wars of religion, it was bought in 1627 by the duke of Condé who made it restore. Already ruined in the eighteenth century, it has now disappeared completely. In the thirteenth century, a parish church was built and depended on Chambon abbey in the Diocese of Limoges. The village is known to be the start of beautiful hikes, walks and mountain bike circuits. George Sand's footsteps will not be missed by taking the George Sand Trail.
