Perhaps simply eponymous of the saint, attested in Ille-et-Vilaine, Mauron suffered greatly from the wars of succession in Brittany. The supporters of the king of Brittany were crushed there in 1352. Mauron, like many communes in central Brittany, suffered greatly from the rural exodus and lost many men at the front during the First World War. The town, also held by the Germans until 1944, saw a fierce battle against infantry and artillery. Since then, it has recovered, and it is through the use of the Arthurian imagination that Mauron lives again.
