This commune of 2,245 inhabitants lies close to the sea and the Gulf of Morbihan. Malansac takes its name from the Latin mediolanum, meaning "village on the plain". Malansac's history is one of craftsmanship. From the 16th to the 20th century, Malansac was known for its slate quarries, hence the site of the slate quarries and the hike that bears its name. The latter offers superb views over the hills and the Arz valley (Natura 2000 area), and was a pottery mecca from the 18th to the 20th century. To keep with the theme, take a trip to the Parc de la Préhistoire to discover the history of the site's first inhabitants.
