Redon was founded over 1,000 years ago by a community of monks led by Saint Conwoïon. In 832, this protégé of Nominoë, the first Breton king, founded a Benedictine monastery. Plundered by the Normans, from the 10th century onwards, under the name of Saint-Sauveur Abbey, it enjoyed a radiant prosperity that can still be seen today. Partly fortified, Redon then took advantage of its position at the crossroads of rivers and its proximity to the ocean: the port became a trading center for agricultural products from the hinterland, including Guérande salt. Don't forget to visit the marshes of Redon and their valleys.
