Muzillac was first developed during the Roman invasion. The origin of its name, attested in 1130 as Musuliacum, is Gallo-Roman and perpetuates the memory of a Gaul named Musius. Situated on the main Roman road from Vannes to the Loire, the town grew in importance during the Middle Ages, to the point of hosting the Chambre des Comptes de Bretagne from 1288 to 1432. Between the Vilaine estuary and the Lanvaux moors, Muzillac is a perfect compromise between sea and countryside, with its Pen-Mur site in particular. In 2016, Muzillac was awarded the Village Étape label for the quality of its services.
