The origin of the name of the commune comes from the Breton Lan, meaning parish, and Guidic, coming from the saint of the same name. A saint honoured in Wales and in some Breton parishes. The municipality still has 13 chapels on its territory, the most beautiful of which remains that of Notre-Dame des Fleurs. Languidic also has megaliths, fountains and many wells. Located about twenty kilometres from Lorient, the municipality is crossed by the river Le Blavet for 18 km and extends over approximately 10 900 hectares. An area that makes it the largest municipality in Morbihan....
