Arzal is now famous for its dam, built between 1962 and 1970 to regulate water levels. As a stopover for river navigation, its marina is a must. However, the commune also boasts a rich rural heritage. The old houses around the Saint-Jean-Baptiste chapel are well worth a visit, as is Vieille-Roche, where traces of the gabelous who supervised maritime traffic can be found. Bread ovens and mills bear witness to the region's intense activity. The Lantiern temple, built by the knight monks, dates back to the 12th century. Nestled in the heart of a group of old houses, it's a real eye-catcher.
