Nestling at the bottom of a green valley, the village of Wasserbourg was first mentioned in the 9th century. André de Guirsberg had the Strohbourg castle built here in 1222. A few ruins of this building remain today, and are featured on the Wasserbourg coat of arms. This charming village is the ideal starting point for many walks to the Petit Ballon massif. From its summit, you can enjoy a splendid view of the Vosges crests, the Alsace plain, the German Black Forest and, on a clear day, the Alps! By car, you can reach the Munster valley via Sondernach or Mulhbach.
