Situated on the banks of the Yonne, and upstream from Auxerre, this picturesque fortified village is dominated by a castle which was the seat of one of the seven châtellenies of the Donzois. It is the birthplace of Leconte, the inventor of the first floating timber train which left here in 1547. The commune is bathed by the Nivernais canal and offers a beautiful panorama of the Yonne valley. Don't miss the stele in homage to Colonel Rozanoff, the first French pilot to break the sound barrier. Among the natural sites around, you can discover the ponds of the Moulin des Alouettes and the Foulon, the Ausson valley, the Fées cave as well as beautiful wooded areas, very pleasant for walks.
