The largest village on the eastern shore is home to some of Lake Ohrid's most popular beaches: Peštani, on the edge of the town center, Desaret (partly private) and, above all, Gradište, 3 km to the south. All have restaurants and bars with sun loungers and parasols. In the past, Peštani's main source of income was fishing, but the local population has now turned to tourism, transforming almost every house into a bed & breakfast, hotel or restaurant. So it's very busy in summer, with deafening music, jet-skis flush with bathers and overflowing garbage cans. However, we recommend stopping off here to try a good fish restaurant, to visit the recreation of the Bay of Bones lakeside village or to take one of the hiking trails. Several of the latter lead up to Mount Galičica through magnificent scenery. Another, 20 km long, leads to the St. Naum monastery. From here, it's just a short bus ride back to Peštani.
