Mavrovo National Park (Национален Парк Маврово/Nacionalen Park Mavrovo or Mavrova Millî Parkı in Turkish and Parku Kombëtar i Mavrovës in Albanian) covers 731 km2, mainly within the municipality of Mavrovo and Rostuša (population approx. 5,000, of which 31% Turkish, 29% Macedonian and 9% Albanian) and four mountain ranges: bistra (2,163 m) to the west, Korab (2,764 m), Dešat (2,372 m) and Krčin (2,341 m) to the east, along the border with Albania. It lies between the towns of Gostivar to the north and Debar to the south. It is crossed by the R 1202 road, which follows the valley of the Radika river. The main tourist center is the village of Mavrovi Anovi, 24 km southwest of Gostivar and 45 km northeast of Debar. Bus connections: vary according to locality.Created in 1949, the largest of the country's four national parks is a destination of choice for nature lovers, with its rich biodiversity, and for contemplative types, with its magnificent landscapes and high mountain peaks such as Golem Korab, the highest point in North Macedonia and Albania, for hikers, with its many relatively well-marked trails; for skiers, with the country's most chic ski resort and valleys to discover on cross-country skis until spring; and for a variety of human encounters, with its Turkish, Albanian, Mijak and Torbeš populations.
