Vrutok/Вруток (pronounced "vroutok"), or Vërtok/Vërtoku in Albanian, has around 640 inhabitants (58% Albanians and 32% Macedonians) and is part of the municipality of Gostivar. The village lies at the source of the Vardar, below Mount Korab (2,764 m above sea level) and 9 km south-west of Gostivar (road R 2979). Local bus connections: ask at the Gostivar bus station.It's here, in the pretty Vardar gorge, that the country's largest river is born. There are hiking trails to Lake Mavrovo, a hydroelectric power station and restaurants serving trout raised in large ponds.
