Posušje/Посушје (pronounced "possuchié") has a population of about 6,000, 99% of which are Bosnian Croats. It is the capital of the municipality of Posušje (population 20,000), which is part of the West Herzegovina canton. The town is located 12 km northeast of Imotski (Croatia), 34 km southwest of Blidinje National Park, 36 km southeast of Tomislavgrad and 49 km northwest of Mostar(via Široki Brijeg). Bus connections to Mostar, Tomislavgrad, Međugorje and several towns in Croatia, including Imotski. This border town, whose name means "drought", is an important crossroads between Mostar, Tomislavgrad and Dalmatia. It was the object of constant struggles between the Venetians and the Ottomans and has been rebuilt many times, but it enjoys beautiful mountain scenery. In the northern part, there are two Catholic churches dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary (Blažene Djevice Marije), one built in stone in the 20th century, the other larger and concrete, completed in 2022. To the northwest of the modern church is an interesting group of seven stećci in the form of richly decorated trunks (crosses, horsemen with spears hunting animals, figures with arrows...). The surroundings of Posušje are thus home to many medieval tombstones, such as near the old bridge over the Ričina River at the eastern exit of the town, towards Tomislavgrad, with seven stećci on the right bank and another thirty-one on the left bank, in the cemetery.
