Hutovo/Хутово (pronounced "routovo") has about 200 inhabitants, all Bosnian-Croats. A former major road junction in southern Herzegovina, Hutovo has been bypassed since 2022 by the new expressway between Stolac and Neum (38 km), including a 1 km tunnel dug under a hill to the west of the village. Perched at 310 m above sea level and surrounded by arid landscapes of gray stone and scrubland, Hutovo remains, however, a popular stopover for bicycle tourists using the Ćiro trail. This follows the route of the old railway that, from 1901 to 1970, connected Čapljina to Dubrovnik (200 km, including 120 km in Herzegovina) via Hutovo, Ravno and Trebinje.
