Tarvisio is a famous winter sports resort located in the heart of a valley that separates the Carnic Alps to the north from the Julian Alps to the south. It is a city of borders, located a few kilometers from the Austrian and Slovenian borders, and is a cultural crossroads where the Italian, German and Slovenian languages coexist with the Friulian language. Tarvisio is very pleasant to live in and is an excellent starting point for exploring the region. Its main square, Piazza Unità, is bordered by the church of Santi Pietro e Paolo, an example of a 15th century fortified church, which has retained two defensive towers from its wall. Via Vittorio Veneto has many shops and a covered market. Tarvisio is surrounded by the largest state-owned forest in Italy (24,000 hectares) and its territory is covered with hiking trails. At the exit of the town, a path allows you to admire the gorges dug by the Slizza torrent. Continuing towards the Slovenian border, one reaches the lakes of Fusine with their pure and transparent waters. Towards the west, along the road to Camporosso, there are many cable car stations: one of them allows you to reach the charming village of Monte Lussari, which is the archetype of a mountain village. The beautiful Austrian town of Villach is only 25 minutes away by car and the Slovenian rivers, suitable for rafting, are within easy reach.
