Valence-en-Poitou was born on January1, 2019 from the merger of Couhé, Ceaux-en-Couhé, Châtillon, Payré and Vaux. It takes its name from the abbey of Valence, in Couhé. Thanks to its activities (fisheries, mills, forests...), in the 17th century, these communes experienced a strong economic and cultural development. The prehistoric caves of La Groie, in Châtillon, attest to a human presence from the Upper Paleolithic. The Dive River is an asset, especially for Payré, which extends on the other side to the Minières. Gallo-Roman site, Couhé develops thanks to the castle and the abbey. The covered market is worth seeing, as well as the Notre-Dame church in Vaux-en-Couhé
