The village of Mare à Vieille Place is an obligatory passage to reach Grand-Îlet by the D52, and is a stopover to stock up on supplies, especially at the pharmacy, before attacking the long hikes that await you higher up. At an altitude of 850 m, it has also recently become a site where you can sleep, eat, enjoy the many viewpoints and climb the Piton Maillot. Thus, the Belvedere offers a beautiful view of the Roche Écrite, then the Piton Fougères and the Bé Massoune. The Mare à Vieille Place is dominated by Piton Gabou. Historically, thanks to the road and the water supply, the cultivation of early vegetables has developed a lot.
