Located at the foot of the Montsant massif, La Morera de Montsant, with a population of about 110, is known for the remains of the Carthusian monastery of Santa Maria d'Escaladei, an ancient monastery of the Carthusian Order that has been deserted. The monks who came from Provence in the 12th century cultivated vines here for more than 700 years and were forced to abandon everything in 1835. The visit of these vestiges is impressive to say the least, the remains being of an exceptional size.
