A handful of wooden houses make up the village of Juan Esteban, 10 kilometers south of Santa Cruz de Barahona, on the Paraiso road, just before reaching the village of La Ciénaga. Don't expect to pass through a real village, but rather a coastal road bordered by the Caribbean Sea. Dominicans come here to enjoy the beautiful El Quemaito beach with its pebbled shores and translucent water (there's also a little gargote where you can eat with your feet in the sand!) A number of small hotels have also sprung up along the coastline, facing the blue horizon.
