Pedernales, 335 km from Santo Domingo, is a small town on the border with Haiti. The village is a good starting point for accessing the Sierra de Bahoruca mountains and Bahia de Las Aguilas, the country's most beautiful beach. However, it remains excluded from the main tourist routes, and to remedy this the government launched a major development project in the region in 2023: the monumental project calls for the construction of nine hotels and 12,000 rooms over 10 years, an international airport, a shopping mall, an aqueduct and a new freeway! Pedernales could soon be completely transformed by tourism.
