It is one of the largest municipalities in the Pla de l'Estany, made up of several villages - Miànigues, Merlant, Mata, Les Pedreres, Pujarnol and Usall - covering 34 km² and surrounding the county capital. Banyoles, on the other hand, was incorporated as a community of agglomeration in 1833. It has a long history: there are vestiges of the presence of the Iberians in the5th century BC, before castles were built a few centuries later, and then the Ademar, feudal lords, settled in the region. But it is the lush nature that surrounds Porqueres that is one of the main attractions of the municipality.
