For many centuries, until 1979, the main activity of Cabezón de la Sal was the extraction of salt, the origin of its name. This municipality of more than 8,000 inhabitants was also an important crossing point on the Route of the Foramontanos, the name by which the northerners who repopulated the territories of Castile at the beginning of the Reconquista were known. The city preserves a beautiful heritage that is divided among its different hamlets, including the eighteenth century Bodega palace and the Baroque church of San Martín. Two kilometres away, in the village of Carrejo, there is a nature museum worth a visit.
