At the western entrance to this pleasant town of more than 6,000 inhabitants, you can admire a beautiful medieval donkey-backed bridge, elegantly thrown over the Sella River. Exceptionally well preserved, it is recognizable by the large cross suspended in its middle, symbol of the town. The other local attraction is the Santa Cruz chapel, in the west of the town, erected in memory of the Battle of Covadonga. Cangas de Onis is also home to the only dolmen in the area, one stone of which is decorated with engraved drawings. This chapel and the monastery of Liébana, near Potes, are among the first Christian sites built on Spanish soil.
