Born as a fishing village, Porto Garibaldi was the first seaside resort on the coast, but it has partially preserved its original vocation: in the morning, fishing boats loaded with fish return to moor along the port-canal of Porto Garibaldi or continue on to Comacchio. The seaside town is located at the mouth of a canal that connects the sea to the lagoon of Comacchio and the hinterland to Ferrara. Its low buildings reinforce its coastal village appearance. Every year events are held on the canal port, such as the Feast of the Madonna of the Sea in June, with its procession of decorated boats.
