The place is romantic: water, little bridges, boats, and all so tiny in the middle of marshes. It's easy to understand why its "big sister" Venice was jealous of it in its day. The town was destroyed in the 16th century by the Serenissima, who saw Comacchio's wealthy merchants and fleet as a thorn in her side. Everything had to be rebuilt to restore the authenticity of this timeless place, where the steeples all sing in chorus at a fixed hour... The first two weekends in October celebrate the region's specialty, eel. The whole town takes part in this gastronomic feast.
