Situated on the Po di Goro, the village was founded on the edge of the Mesola wood, one of the last testimonies of the ancient forests that lined the Adriatic coastline in ancient times. Its name comes from the Latin " media insula", indicating its geographical position: until the 10th century, the sea was still present here, and it was only with the advancement of the coast that the village could develop. In the 15th century, the Este family turned the land into a hunting reserve and built the castle here. Coming from Ferrara, a two-day excursion will allow you to visit the Abbazia di Pomposa, the forest and the dunes of Mesola, Goro and Gorino with its lighthouse.
