Born in 1995 from the merger of two municipalities, Porto Viro is one of the most important centers of the Po Delta Regional Park. It is located in the heart of the Delta, in a landscape of lagoons and sandy areas. Its history dates back to ancient times: the first settlement was on the road between Rimini and Aquileia. The Venetians carried out great hydraulic engineering works between 1600 and 1604. Noble Venetian families, such as the Contarini, the Donà, the Pisani and the Pesaro, built beautiful pleasure houses here. Today, the town is a peaceful village with the church of San Bartolomeo Apostolo and the honey museum.
