The town that gave its name to a play by Goldoni(Baroufe in Chioggia) is turned towards the sea. It's a glimpse of life in the southern lagoon, centered on fishing and mussel farming. Elegant old houses are scattered around the canal and the main thoroughfare, Corso del Popolo. Several beautiful churches, including the Duomo, San Domenico and the Church of the Santissima Trinità. It's not Venice, but it looks like it (except for the cars!). In fact, it's nicknamed "Venice in miniature". Sottomarina, an island linked to Chioggia by a bridge, is an uninteresting seaside resort, and the beach is crowded in summer!
